Purchases from Chapters!

Hello December!

This will be a short post because I have an exam tomorrow!

Anyways, I received parts of my purchase from Chapters and I wanted to include the coupon that I received. I mentioned it in this post about the promotion.

Chapters Indigo or Indigo Chapters is a bookstore chain in Canada. I believe Chapters and Indigo used to be separate chains but had a merger? They have a great online shopping policy:

  • Free shipping when you spend $25+
  • In-store returns
In-store returns is the most important factor when I decide to do my online shopping. I don't want to wait for 3 weeks to get a refund or exchange and have to pay for return shipping.

I purchased the Q&A A day journal and a portable battery pack (not pictured). I will start writing in the journal in the new year. You are suppose to write a sentence or 2 each day for the next 5 years. I cannot manage to do a full entry each day, but I should be able to manage a sentence or two. I have read some sporadic entries from previous attempts to maintain a journal and it really helped me learn more about myself.

Have you started to shop for the new year yet?

Lazy Make-Up

Since I woke up three hours before needing to leave the house, I decided to share what I wear or don't wear on lazy make-up days. :)
Foundation | Highlighter| Concealer| Eyeliner| Make-Up Setting Spray| Sponge*(I can't wear sponges)
Foundation
The foundation I am currently using is Revlon Colourstay for Normal to Dry skin in 150 Buff. I've had this foundation for a while now (over three months?) and I've only recently started to use it again. I purchased this at Walmart when I visited the states. I believe it is $10 or less there and $19 in Canada. This colour is a tad too light for me but since it's winter and I apply it with a sponge. Imo, it smells kind of weird.

This foundation was so popular on YouTube and I took probably like two years before I finally decided to try it. I like this way better than the Photoready that was too dark and too sparkly. I am fine with lighter foundations but I don't like ones that are too too dark.
Highlighter
I have the L'oreal Magic Lumi Concealer in Light. I thought it was just a hightlighter, but it's suppose to be both? I have fairly dark undereye circles so this alone is not enough. I don't remember how much it was when I bought it, but I got it with the liquid eyeliner in this post.

I also included a "friend" that contains both a highlighter and concealer, but unfortunately it is discountinued.
Eyeliner
My eyes cannot handle pencil liners because they smudge like crazy. They only thing I use now are liquid liners. It is so easy to fix mistakes, but they will also run if you get teary-eyed. I purchased the Line Stiletto from Maybelline and I don't enjoy this liner, it is not dark enough. I prefer the L'oreal Carbon Black Linear Intense. Felt-tip liners are quicker to use due to its larger tip, so I recommend the L'oreal one :) I already purchased a back up!
Make-up Setting Spray
I wear glasses, so the Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray helps me prevent getting make-up stuck on my nose pads. I suggest spraying your face once before and once after putting on your make-up. I love this spray because I am too lazy to put on powder and powder can create the cakey look if you put on too much. I love not having to worry when I use this spray. I also purchased the De-slick version, but I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. This spray does not break me out *knocks on wood*

Make-up Sponge
I've tried stippling brushes, but I prefer this more. It provides a very natural finish and I can layer concealer and highlighter and more concealer! Using these sponges also makes me more conscious with cleaning them regularly :) Btw, these are not beautyblenders.
What do you wear on your lazy make-up days?

2013 Christmas Gift Guide for Girls

I planned on posting on Saturday but it is nearing the end of my semester so I am occupied with schoolwork.

Anyways, I have started planning for my Christmas, so I thought that I would share my gift ideas. As a girl, I don't think that girls are hard to shop for because we can always use an extra "insert item".

I will have two categories: over and under $50. Over 50 will be posted on a later date since this I want to include my thoughts in the suggestions.

From Left to Right

These Midi rings are adorable from BaubleBar. There are several styles to choose from and they are currently on sale 2 for $34 from their online website. The best thing about midi rings is that you don't need to ask or find out their ring size because they are suppose to be fit higher up on you fingers!

I found these adorable gloves from Asos. They have free shipping worldwide and the antlers are what attracted me to them. They can go from gloves to mitten making them smartphone friendly.

From Sephora, I really want this eyeliner set from Urban Decay. It contains six eyeliners that black-based. This eyeliner set is actually wearable, I am not one to sport bright blue or even dark purple liners. And I've heard that Urban Decay makes some great liners.

This next item that I suggest can be found at other retailers (Sephora, their own website, etc).  But if you are from Canada, I suggest checking out Chapter's selection of colours. Butter London polishes are considered to be a high-end nail polish brand and they have the coolest names. The one in the picture is Cake Hole. They are on sale right now and they have a starbucks deal going on for all purchases made on the website. You can get someone a gift and earn a treat for a job well done.
A winter accessory that I cannot live without would be the infinity/ circle scarf. I hate regular scarves because the ends dangle everywhere. There are a million ways to style a scarf but sometimes it feels as though I am choking myself. Asos' scarf is HUGE and looks incredibly warm and cozy. And as a monochromatic lover, I am still missing a black scarf in my wardrobe. ;)

I am not sponsored by Chapters BUT I seriously considering buying these items.

It seems like I say this a lot.

But, happy Shopping!

Sephora Favorites SuperStars (Beauty Must Haves) - Preview

Hello there,

After watching Glamlifeguru's video on this set, I had to put it on my wishlist. I picked it up when I went to Portland. As a Canadian, things for overpriced for not a very good reason. This set retails for $75 USD but $89 CAD.

How I convinced myself to buy this set :

  • I don't own any bronzers
  • Eye creams are really expensive (in this case the eye cream is worth 37.50 !)
  • I like liquid eyeliners and I would love to try more brands
  • BB Cream appeared to be in the right shade for my skin tone
  • Early Christmas present?

The set comes with 13 items (the too-faced product comes with 2 items) which means each item costs only $5.76. (75/13=5.76)

BEAUTY MUST HAVES - Sephora's top selling beauty essentials: From makeup to nail polish to fragance, this exclusive 12-piece beauty kit contains our must haves (including nine full-size products).

Price of the 9 Full Sized Products: ( in Canadian Prices)

Deborah Lippmann nail polish in Cleopatra in New York - 22
Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil - 18
NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita - 30
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff - 37.50
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Light - 50
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner - 26
Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System - 46
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Sin & Mushroom - 22
VIKTOR & ROLF Flowerbomb Rollerball - 30

I actually do not have the NARS Lipstick. I have extremely dry lips and I can't wear any coloured lip products except lipbalm. I decided to give it to my friend already :)

My thoughts on the items I have actually used:

Deborah Lippmann nail polish in Cleopatra in New York
This is the first Deborah Lippmann glitter polish that I have used. It is not a combo that I would pick up. I am much more interested in Strong & 99 Luftballons type glitters.
99 Luftballons | Cleopatra in New York | Stronger
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Light
I don't have swatches for this BB Cream but it is too dark for my skin tone. I like that it contains SPF so I will be mixing it my other BB creams.

VIKTOR & ROLF Flowerbomb Rollerball
I have heard about this fragrance from many YouTubers, but I never got a chance to smell this scent. It's difficult to love a scent based on someone's description. My verdict is I prefer my Chloe and my boyfriend doesn't like it.

I may include more information once I get a chance to use these products :)

The entire set displayed at Sephora
I hope that this helped you to make your mind on this set. I am drugstore makeup user. Sephora is too expensive for me, but I couldn't pass up this deal. I forsee myself purchasing the 2014 SuperStars set.

Happy Shopping !

Glitter Polish Removal Method && Current Nail Polish

Hello there!

As much as I love glitter nail polishes, I hate the removal process. Tbh, I hate everything to do with nail polish removal :)

I've seen countless number of videos and tutorials on nail polish removal with aluminum foil, but I thought that there has to be someone out there that don't know about this method. I hope that this is helpful.

I had tried to remove the polish through the regular method. But as you can see, only the black polish and the tint on the glitter was removed. Btw, I am wearing Cleopatra in New York by Deborah Lippmann over a black polish. I recommend that you use a nail polish remover with acetone. I used to use acetone-free remover but it was too ineffective. You will also need 10 pieces of aluminum foil and 10 pieces of cotton. They can be cotton balls or pads, but remember that you need slightly larger pieces for your thumbs.

Next soak the cotton in remover and place it on your nail and then secure the piece of cotton with the aluminum foil. I would suggest to cover your thumb last and do one hand at a time if you are not in a hurry. I was using my computer so I wanted one free hand to scroll my mouse.

Leave the cotton on for approximately five minutes and you will end up with stained nails like mine! (I hope not.)

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

I don't know about you but my nails cannot stand to be polish free. They are simply too weak and they break too easily. If I am short on time I will still put on base coat. In response to autumn, I've decided to wear some darker colours.

This lovely forest green is China Glaze's Exotic Encounters. I received this colour last year in some beauty subscription box. I don't have any colour similar to this, but I love this colour for the fall and winter. I decided to make use of my glitters and include them to spruce up my nail polish.

Base Coat : Pro Fx Protein Enriched Base Coat and Revitalizer from Walmart
Top Coat: Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat from Winners
Glitters : eBay

What colour are your nails this week?

Ebay Purchase Recommendations

Ebay is an amazing place to shop if you are in no hurry to get the item. I typically purchase items that are under 10 dollars. Since I am located in Canada, the shipping takes around 2 weeks- 1 month.

At the bottom of the post I have some tips for you before you venture into the world of eBay.

USB Cables | Phone Cases | Nail Art Supplies | Asian Beauty Products | Scarves
I tend to purchase the above items on eBay. *I just pulled out these listings and I am not responsible for any unhappy customers. (I don't know the sellers)

  • USB Cables - I need one everywhere (in my room, by my computer, in the car, at work, at school). And it can add up if you are spending 10 dollars per cord. But I have to say that quality may not always be there. The USB cords I purchase are usually under $3. I would be careful purchasing the USB chargers eBay because of voltage and different countries use different outlets.

  • Phone Cases - It's usually just plastic poured into cute molds. There are more sturdy ones available. I really want this particular kitty one in white (if I placed a white picture in here, you may have some trouble seeing it). I am also looking at phone cases that allow you to slip credit cards or IDs. Price Range: $2(completely plastic) - $10 (wallet-like).
Wallet Phone Cases

  • Nail Art Supplies -  I have seen the nail art dotting tools for like 3 dollars per tool. It is way cheaper on here. Item Suggestions : nail wheels, artificial nails, nail art brushes, rhinestones/pearls/glitters, etc. Price Range : < $4
Crushed Shell Nail Art Decoration

  • Asian Beauty Products - Somewhere in the post I imply that most of the items are from Asia. Where else can you find deals for Asian Beauty Products?! The nose strips pictured are produced by Biore in Asia. They are okay, but way cheaper than Canadian prices ( $10-14? for 10 strips). Item Suggestions: Dollywink Eyeliner, Korean BB Creams, Clean & Clear Blotting Papers, etc.  Price Range: It really depends on what you are buying. I usually spend < $20.
Missha BB Cream

  • Scarves - I prefer buying my lightweight spring/fall scarves from eBay. There are many designs available. I would make sure to look at the dimensions of the scarf before buying it. I did purchase a brown/ black leopard scarf and grey speckled scarf that I enjoy wearing. But I would not purchase winter scarves from eBay. They may not be as thick and as warm as you anticipate it to be. Price Range: < $5

Owl Patterned Scarf

Now if that wasn't enough reading, here are some more tips:

Some tips I would give before you make your purchases on eBay:

  • Make a Paypal account, you should be able to make one regardless of whether you have a credit card or not (but having a credit card will make the process easier).
    • I don't like to automatically authorize log-ins for my Paypal account.
    • Quite frequently, I find myself putting off purchases if I have to log in again for each transaction I make.
  • Always search for items that are free shipping
    • Sometimes buyers maybe put an item that's worth $5 for $3+ 4.99 shipping.
    • Choosing free shipping will guarantee that the price you see is the price you pay for.
  • Sometimes things do get lost in the mail, so the Paypal buyer protection program is very helpful.
  • I personally prefer ebay.com over ebay.ca.
    • EBay.com is the American website and it contains a lot more selection.
    • Ebay.com has a shopping basket feature that the Canadian version doesn't have. The shopping basket option allows you to purchase more than one item from more than one seller at once. I also use it for keep track of things I might buy or would like to buy.
  • I don't like auctions, it's not worth the time if my item will cost me $6 instead of $5.50.
    • Also, the auctions may end at 3 am and I'm not awake. You might change your mind throughout the auction process.
What do you purchase from eBay?

Fall/ Winter Boots

I used to think that summer was the best season. But now I know it is Fall. I love my infinity scarves, boots, leg warmers and sweater weather! I've already started to purchase some boots for this season. I just placed an order on Aldo last night.
Source
Here are some of the boots that I think would be very appropriate for this fall:
Steve Madden Combat Boots | Michael Kors Two-toned Riding Boots | Jeffery Campbell Litas | Aldo Ankle Boots | Hunter Wellington Boots

  1. I really want to go out and buy these combat boots. As much as I love tall boots, sometimes they are a hassle to get on, so these are perfect.
  2. I used to love black boots but now I'm starting to dislike wearing black boots with demin. But with this pair, both brown and black are present so they will literally match any outfit you put on
  3. I would probably never buy this because I cannot do heels. However, in boot form, they should be more secure and comfortable. You can wear super thick socks with them!
  4. The buckle details are nice and a tiny bit of height. They also remind me of the ones that Carly Cristman has. I'm 5'5 so I'm okay with a small heel.
  5. As a neutral person, these don't seem to be a good choice. Especially since they retail for $160 + CAD. But it is in a fall color and all of my other boots are in shades of black, brown and grey. I can justify them.

You don't necessarily need to purchase the exact boots but I wish I owned all of them. In my Aldo order, I did purchase the 4th pair of boots in brown (they were on sale for 55).

I hope you guys enjoy my recommendations :)
