Summer Nail Polish Picks 2014

Welcome to my second seasonal nail polish post. I did post a winter nail polish recommendations that you can find here.
Since it is summer I decided to provide so many options because summer is the time for you to break out the colorful bright neon polishes and refrain from using the safe polishes even though I did include one that I enjoy all year round.

There are some weird cuts and we are jumps in the video but that's because this is literally my second video and I still have no clue what I'm doing so please forgive my awkwardness and there are a lot of bad takes like that this video.

I have tried my best to take pictures of the mail polishes that accurately represent the color of the nail polish. You can also refer to the font color that may be a even closer representation. But I have included some swatches and you can see that the neon polish is a matte finish. In case you were wondering the background is a body shop logo because the colors were not showing up the way I want them to when I put it against the white background.

Anyways please leave a comment below this post or in my YouTube video on which one of these are your favorite colors.

Updated What's in my Bag ft. Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.C.

So I've decided to make videos again and not knowing what to post I decided to make an update on my review and included a more detailed "What is in my Bag". If you take a look in my previous post you may have noticed that I have changed up my wallet, excluded my keys and essentially changed my opinion on this bag.

Product mentioned:
Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mac
Lovely born Navy zipper wallet
Blistex raspberry lemonade blast lip balm

In my previous post I was using a coach wallet that I received as a gift from my friends. I decided to temporarily replaced his wallet with this synthetic wallet that I got from a eBay seller. Initially I was contemplating on purchasing a Tory Burch zip wallet/coin purse similar in size.

But I couldn't justify spending over $100 on a wallet that is essentially a coin purse.  This option allows me to try out this wall size and decide on whether I like the smaller wallet. Currently I am struggling with the fact that because I have so many cards and cash in the wallet there's no space for any of my coins.

So what size wallet do you carry and why?

Mini Haul - Shopping vs. Buying

According to my boyfriend, all he does is "buying" and I am always "shopping". The difference between the two is I spend too much time walking around looking at stuff with no immediate intention to buy. I think it's fine, I bought one of these items and "shopped" for the rest.

I generally never shop at American Apparel and these riding pants were $82 Canadian. But, I did have a groupon for the value of 80$ so I only paid 7 dollars in tax. (~$47). I was contemplating between the disco pants and riding pants when I was browsing online. Since these are high-waisted, I decided to get them in medium :)
Over the boxing day sale, I went on Chapters and shopped around to find these adorable pug cards. They come in a set of 8 and they were approx 3 dollars for the box. They are also blank cards so they can be customized to suit any occasion. Never send the items to be picked up at store, they took forever to get over there.

Last item I shopped for was this non-caffenated tea blend from DavidsTea. It smells lovely but I haven't tried it yet :)
Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait
I need to stop shopping ><

Rebecca Minkoff Mini M.A.C - Review

I wanted a crossbody bag to prevent me from carrying everything in my Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran Bag. After looking on the Rebecca Minkoff website I was torn between the navy and the black one. Turns out the navy bag is from several seasons ago and they only had a med-toned blue available. Thus, I opted for the safest choice, black.  I also saw the platinum one that was mesmerizing but too much for my style.

Contents of my bag (keys & phone not shown):

I can only fit my wallet, giftcards holder, pen, lipbalm & keys.

I am contemplating getting another =/

What do you keep in your bag?

Purchases from Chapters!

Hello December!

This will be a short post because I have an exam tomorrow!

Anyways, I received parts of my purchase from Chapters and I wanted to include the coupon that I received. I mentioned it in this post about the promotion.

Chapters Indigo or Indigo Chapters is a bookstore chain in Canada. I believe Chapters and Indigo used to be separate chains but had a merger? They have a great online shopping policy:

  • Free shipping when you spend $25+
  • In-store returns
In-store returns is the most important factor when I decide to do my online shopping. I don't want to wait for 3 weeks to get a refund or exchange and have to pay for return shipping.

I purchased the Q&A A day journal and a portable battery pack (not pictured). I will start writing in the journal in the new year. You are suppose to write a sentence or 2 each day for the next 5 years. I cannot manage to do a full entry each day, but I should be able to manage a sentence or two. I have read some sporadic entries from previous attempts to maintain a journal and it really helped me learn more about myself.

Have you started to shop for the new year yet?

2013 Christmas Gift Guide for Girls

I planned on posting on Saturday but it is nearing the end of my semester so I am occupied with schoolwork.

Anyways, I have started planning for my Christmas, so I thought that I would share my gift ideas. As a girl, I don't think that girls are hard to shop for because we can always use an extra "insert item".

I will have two categories: over and under $50. Over 50 will be posted on a later date since this I want to include my thoughts in the suggestions.

From Left to Right

These Midi rings are adorable from BaubleBar. There are several styles to choose from and they are currently on sale 2 for $34 from their online website. The best thing about midi rings is that you don't need to ask or find out their ring size because they are suppose to be fit higher up on you fingers!

I found these adorable gloves from Asos. They have free shipping worldwide and the antlers are what attracted me to them. They can go from gloves to mitten making them smartphone friendly.

From Sephora, I really want this eyeliner set from Urban Decay. It contains six eyeliners that black-based. This eyeliner set is actually wearable, I am not one to sport bright blue or even dark purple liners. And I've heard that Urban Decay makes some great liners.

This next item that I suggest can be found at other retailers (Sephora, their own website, etc).  But if you are from Canada, I suggest checking out Chapter's selection of colours. Butter London polishes are considered to be a high-end nail polish brand and they have the coolest names. The one in the picture is Cake Hole. They are on sale right now and they have a starbucks deal going on for all purchases made on the website. You can get someone a gift and earn a treat for a job well done.
A winter accessory that I cannot live without would be the infinity/ circle scarf. I hate regular scarves because the ends dangle everywhere. There are a million ways to style a scarf but sometimes it feels as though I am choking myself. Asos' scarf is HUGE and looks incredibly warm and cozy. And as a monochromatic lover, I am still missing a black scarf in my wardrobe. ;)

I am not sponsored by Chapters BUT I seriously considering buying these items.

It seems like I say this a lot.

But, happy Shopping!

Sephora Favorites SuperStars (Beauty Must Haves) - Preview

Hello there,

After watching Glamlifeguru's video on this set, I had to put it on my wishlist. I picked it up when I went to Portland. As a Canadian, things for overpriced for not a very good reason. This set retails for $75 USD but $89 CAD.

How I convinced myself to buy this set :

  • I don't own any bronzers
  • Eye creams are really expensive (in this case the eye cream is worth 37.50 !)
  • I like liquid eyeliners and I would love to try more brands
  • BB Cream appeared to be in the right shade for my skin tone
  • Early Christmas present?

The set comes with 13 items (the too-faced product comes with 2 items) which means each item costs only $5.76. (75/13=5.76)

BEAUTY MUST HAVES - Sephora's top selling beauty essentials: From makeup to nail polish to fragance, this exclusive 12-piece beauty kit contains our must haves (including nine full-size products).

Price of the 9 Full Sized Products: ( in Canadian Prices)

Deborah Lippmann nail polish in Cleopatra in New York - 22
Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil - 18
NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita - 30
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream to Brighten and Depuff - 37.50
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Light - 50
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner - 26
Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Lash Extension System - 46
Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Sin & Mushroom - 22
VIKTOR & ROLF Flowerbomb Rollerball - 30

I actually do not have the NARS Lipstick. I have extremely dry lips and I can't wear any coloured lip products except lipbalm. I decided to give it to my friend already :)

My thoughts on the items I have actually used:

Deborah Lippmann nail polish in Cleopatra in New York
This is the first Deborah Lippmann glitter polish that I have used. It is not a combo that I would pick up. I am much more interested in Strong & 99 Luftballons type glitters.
99 Luftballons | Cleopatra in New York | Stronger
Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Light
I don't have swatches for this BB Cream but it is too dark for my skin tone. I like that it contains SPF so I will be mixing it my other BB creams.

VIKTOR & ROLF Flowerbomb Rollerball
I have heard about this fragrance from many YouTubers, but I never got a chance to smell this scent. It's difficult to love a scent based on someone's description. My verdict is I prefer my Chloe and my boyfriend doesn't like it.

I may include more information once I get a chance to use these products :)

The entire set displayed at Sephora
I hope that this helped you to make your mind on this set. I am drugstore makeup user. Sephora is too expensive for me, but I couldn't pass up this deal. I forsee myself purchasing the 2014 SuperStars set.

Happy Shopping !

Ebay Purchase Recommendations

Ebay is an amazing place to shop if you are in no hurry to get the item. I typically purchase items that are under 10 dollars. Since I am located in Canada, the shipping takes around 2 weeks- 1 month.

At the bottom of the post I have some tips for you before you venture into the world of eBay.

USB Cables | Phone Cases | Nail Art Supplies | Asian Beauty Products | Scarves
I tend to purchase the above items on eBay. *I just pulled out these listings and I am not responsible for any unhappy customers. (I don't know the sellers)

  • USB Cables - I need one everywhere (in my room, by my computer, in the car, at work, at school). And it can add up if you are spending 10 dollars per cord. But I have to say that quality may not always be there. The USB cords I purchase are usually under $3. I would be careful purchasing the USB chargers eBay because of voltage and different countries use different outlets.

  • Phone Cases - It's usually just plastic poured into cute molds. There are more sturdy ones available. I really want this particular kitty one in white (if I placed a white picture in here, you may have some trouble seeing it). I am also looking at phone cases that allow you to slip credit cards or IDs. Price Range: $2(completely plastic) - $10 (wallet-like).
Wallet Phone Cases

  • Nail Art Supplies -  I have seen the nail art dotting tools for like 3 dollars per tool. It is way cheaper on here. Item Suggestions : nail wheels, artificial nails, nail art brushes, rhinestones/pearls/glitters, etc. Price Range : < $4
Crushed Shell Nail Art Decoration

  • Asian Beauty Products - Somewhere in the post I imply that most of the items are from Asia. Where else can you find deals for Asian Beauty Products?! The nose strips pictured are produced by Biore in Asia. They are okay, but way cheaper than Canadian prices ( $10-14? for 10 strips). Item Suggestions: Dollywink Eyeliner, Korean BB Creams, Clean & Clear Blotting Papers, etc.  Price Range: It really depends on what you are buying. I usually spend < $20.
Missha BB Cream

  • Scarves - I prefer buying my lightweight spring/fall scarves from eBay. There are many designs available. I would make sure to look at the dimensions of the scarf before buying it. I did purchase a brown/ black leopard scarf and grey speckled scarf that I enjoy wearing. But I would not purchase winter scarves from eBay. They may not be as thick and as warm as you anticipate it to be. Price Range: < $5

Owl Patterned Scarf

Now if that wasn't enough reading, here are some more tips:

Some tips I would give before you make your purchases on eBay:

  • Make a Paypal account, you should be able to make one regardless of whether you have a credit card or not (but having a credit card will make the process easier).
    • I don't like to automatically authorize log-ins for my Paypal account.
    • Quite frequently, I find myself putting off purchases if I have to log in again for each transaction I make.
  • Always search for items that are free shipping
    • Sometimes buyers maybe put an item that's worth $5 for $3+ 4.99 shipping.
    • Choosing free shipping will guarantee that the price you see is the price you pay for.
  • Sometimes things do get lost in the mail, so the Paypal buyer protection program is very helpful.
  • I personally prefer ebay.com over ebay.ca.
    • EBay.com is the American website and it contains a lot more selection.
    • Ebay.com has a shopping basket feature that the Canadian version doesn't have. The shopping basket option allows you to purchase more than one item from more than one seller at once. I also use it for keep track of things I might buy or would like to buy.
  • I don't like auctions, it's not worth the time if my item will cost me $6 instead of $5.50.
    • Also, the auctions may end at 3 am and I'm not awake. You might change your mind throughout the auction process.
What do you purchase from eBay?
